Looking for a job where no two days are the same?
If you’re looking for a role with plenty of variety and endless opportunities to grow, the Finance team at Brand New Day might be exactly what you’re looking for. At least, that’s what Controllers Vanessa and Patrick think.
The sky’s the limit
Vanessa has been with Brand New Day for over thirteen years—something she never expected.
Vanessa: “I used to joke that if you couldn’t do anything else, you’d end up working at a bank.” laughs. “But I’ve never regretted my decision. I tend to trust my instincts, and joining Brand New Day just felt right. It still does. The sky’s the limit here. Of course, there are certain things you simply have to do, but you’re also encouraged to take initiative and make ideas happen. Because we’re a relatively small team, we work closely together. No two days are ever the same, and that’s exactly what I enjoy.”
Patrick joined Brand New Day only a year and a half ago, but it certainly doesn’t feel that way.
Patrick: “I clicked with the team right from my first interview. I even managed to change one thing quite quickly. When I first started, everyone ate lunch at their desks. I remember thinking, ‘What have I walked into?’ Fortunately, that’s changed. Today we all went out for a walk together during lunch.”
He continues:
Patrick: “Working at a fast-growing company like Brand New Day is fantastic. Every week brings something new—new partnerships, new transactions, new opportunities. And if you spot an opportunity yourself or want to explore a different direction, you simply talk to your manager or even someone from the Executive Board. People genuinely listen and are open to new ideas.”
Taking ownership
If it sounds like you’re trusted to take ownership of your work, that’s because you are.
Vanessa: “You need to be independent and confident. Of course we help each other and work as a team, but within your own role you’re given a lot of responsibility and freedom. You have to enjoy that.”
Patrick completely agrees.
Patrick: “You can really make an impact here, and you have a lot of freedom to shape your own role. I’ve worked at larger banks before, where you’re often put into a very specific box. Here you’re still in a box—but it doesn’t have any walls.”
Vanessa laughs.
Vanessa: “Which also means you won’t always have someone holding your hand. You need to enjoy figuring things out and taking the initiative yourself.”
You’re never on your own
Of course, it’s not all hard work in Finance. The atmosphere is just as important.
The monthly drinks are always well attended, and Fridays often end with colleagues catching up over a drink.
Patrick: “It’s quite common for us to stay for drinks on a Friday afternoon. Before you know it, members of the Executive Board have joined us and are chatting away with everyone else. That’s something I think is very typical of Brand New Day. Nobody is too important to sit down with colleagues. It doesn’t matter what your role is or who you are.”
Vanessa agrees.
Vanessa: “People are always willing to help each other. If something needs to get done, we tackle it together. Nobody says, ‘That’s your problem.’ That simply isn’t how we work.”
