Seizing opportunities
Yemi: “I joined Brand New Day two years ago on the Mortgage Desk. Since then, I’ve taken on additional responsibilities within Participant Administration alongside my regular work. I really enjoy combining the two. The flexibility is great, and I have a lot of freedom to organise my own day. Of course, there’s guidance when needed, but in the end, I’m in control of my own work.”
Her colleague Freek, who describes himself as the team’s “working supervisor,” couldn’t agree more.
Freek: “Yemi couldn’t have said it better. You can join as a team member and find yourself managing a department within a year. I know because that’s exactly what happened to me. I’d only been here for about nine months when my manager left and someone needed to step in. Becoming a manager had never been part of my plan, but that’s how things worked out. I think that’s something special. Brand New Day was willing to give me that opportunity, even though I hadn’t been with the company for very long.”
A great place to start your career
Part of Yemi’s role involves managing the administration of payments to and from Brand New Day, not a small responsibility for someone in their early twenties.
Yemi: “It’s definitely not your average student job. Sometimes I forget that it’s not exactly common to be working at a bank at the age of twenty. But because the atmosphere is so informal and I have a lot of freedom, it never feels that way.”
Freek: “We have a lot of young colleagues here. I notice that many people see Brand New Day as a stepping stone before moving on after a year or two. Personally, I think they’re overlooking how many opportunities there are within the company itself. Brand New Day is growing rapidly and has become very good at spotting new opportunities in the market. That growth creates new roles and new possibilities all the time, which means there’s plenty of room to develop your career here.”
Your career is in your hands
Of course, growth doesn’t happen by itself.
Freek: “People who contribute ideas are genuinely appreciated here. You’re encouraged to share your thoughts, and management actually listens. That’s one of the reasons I think Brand New Day is such a great employer for young professionals. You’re challenged to develop yourself, but you’re also free to set your own boundaries. You hear so many stories about work pressure and unrealistic targets. I honestly don’t experience that here. Of course we have goals, but they’re realistic and always open for discussion.”
Yemi agrees.
Yemi: “Many of the tasks I started with two years ago are still part of my job today. But because people genuinely listen to our ideas and give us opportunities to grow, I stay motivated. The way we work and the way the company is organised means I don’t experience work-related stress at all.”
