What do a copywriter and a Digital Experience Lead have in common?
At first glance, not much. Except that they both want to help people in the Netherlands build a better retirement. And—at least in their case—they never imagined they’d end up working for a bank. Eltine and Job explain why Brand New Day isn’t your typical financial institution.
Communication is everything
Job: “I was looking for a new job when I came across this vacancy. I never thought I’d apply to a financial services company, but the job description was written in such a fun, engaging way that I thought: if this is how they communicate, I’m probably going to enjoy working here.”
Eltine had a similar experience.
Eltine: “I came from the agency world, so this was my first role on the client side. If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d be working for a client—and a bank, of all places—I would have laughed in your face. Banking didn’t really appeal to me. But I already knew Brand New Day a little, and I loved the way they communicate. They have a talent for making complex topics easy to understand. That’s something I really wanted to be part of.”
Live to work Work to live
So, now that they’ve been here for a while, has the reality lived up to their expectations?
Job: “Absolutely. I genuinely enjoy my work, but it’s also just a really relaxed company with great people. That’s especially true within the Marketing team—we laugh a lot together. I really feel at home here. Another thing I appreciate is the healthy work-life balance. It’s something the company genuinely values.”
Eltine agrees.
Eltine: “One of the first things that struck me was how normal it is for people to close their laptops at the end of the day and wish everyone a nice evening. I wasn’t used to that. Especially because, at the same time, the company still has that scale-up feeling. You have a lot of freedom to shape your own role and come up with new ideas. And I completely agree with Job: everyone here is approachable, including the leadership team. You can simply walk into their office, ask questions or share ideas, and people genuinely listen. There’s no ivory tower.”
Not your stereotypical bank
You can see that culture reflected throughout the office.
Eltine: “Take the dress code, for example. Everyone simply wears what they feel comfortable in. At an agency, that’s what you’d expect. But at a bank, you usually picture suits and formal business attire. That’s not the case here at all. There aren’t any stereotypical bankers walking around. People just wear what they like.”
Job agrees.
Job: “It’s completely different from what I imagined working at a bank would be like. I can’t imagine it’s anything like working for one of the big traditional banks. Even though we’re a fairly large company—with around 290 colleagues—it still feels close-knit. It genuinely feels like a community. Everyone is working towards the same goal, and you really notice that.”
