Finance & Treasury

The finance department of the bank. You can probably imagine how important this department is. But what do they actually do? And what can you expect if you come to work here?

Wat do these departments do?

What do you think of when you think of a financial department? The office where you send your declarations? Or the department that pays your salary? Makes sense, but did you know that they do much more than that? And that these departments are extremely important for the survival of the bank? Indispensable even.

Among other things, Finance ensures that all invoices are paid on time and prepares annual reports and reports to De Nederlandsche Bank. In addition, they keep track of all financial and non-financial developments inside and outside Brand New Day and advise the management about them.

All that serious stuff we do, we do with a lot of laughter and good cooperation. Because if it’s all a bit too serious it gets boring. And we hate boring at Finance!”

Carlos – Manager Finance & Regulatory Reporting

Balance Sheet Management consists of Investment management and Treasury. They manage Brand New Day’s bank balance sheet. Customers can (among other things) save their money at Brand New Day. We promise that -when they withdraw their money- they will get their savings back from us (plus hopefully some interest). But what we do with that money in the meantime is up to us. Of course, we don’t do crazy or risky things with our customers’ money. But what we do is invest our customers’ savings. This is what investment management does. And Treasury, in turn, manages any risks involved.

What do the teams look like?

Finance employs ten colleagues. Ten sounds a lot, but that’s actually a small team for all the work they do. In fact, at large banks, these departments are often much larger. The fact that the team is not that big is actually an advantage. You get to experience the whole process of how finance works at a bank. So you learn a lot during your work.

The same goes for the colleagues from Balance Sheet Management. This is a team of nine colleagues who carry out various activities. Investment management and Treasury are together and work as one team. However, they all perform their own tasks and activities. Because they all sit together, they can easily help each other during work.

“We actually solve the same puzzles every day, but with different pieces each time. Very fun and challenging because we do this at a growing organization. At a bank that has been around longer, often everything is already running. Here you can build it all by yourself. Plus point is that you really get to do everything.”
